The Saints were knocked off top spot in the Division 2 of Premier League 2 by Wolves at Molineux.

Southampton Under-23s have been flying high in the Premier League 2 Division 2 this year but their promotion hopes suffered a major setback with a 3-1 loss away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
The Saints were overtaken at the top of the table by Wolves, who began the game brightly at Molineux and took the lead through, Niall Ennis, who broke the deadlock with a tap-in.
Radhi Jaidi’s charges then equalised midway through the first half through Alfie Jones, who made the most of poor defending from the hosts, but despite mustering several good chances, it wasn’t to be.
Rob Edwards’s side was back in front through Austin Samuels on the stroke of half time, while after the break, Ennis’s solo goal helped the home side pick up all three points and knock Southampton down into second.
Jaidi, who made six changes to the side that beat Villarreal in the Premier League Internatioal Cup five days prior, expressed his disappointment with his side at full time in the West Midlands.

“Poor goals conceded at key times,” the Southampton legend told the official club website. “When we get ourselves level we created two really good chances to go in front, but then conceded a second before half time. It killed our expectation. The first half was key, and we threw away the opportunity to lead.
“There are a lot of aspects that we need to review. I had to make six changes tonight, which is something we had to deal with. Some individuals weren’t at their best. The performance in general wasn’t what we’ve come to expect. We’re only losers for one day; tomorrow we bounce back and make this loss a lesson that we learn from.”
