Rabiot outshines Tottenham’s current midfield options in two key areas

How Tottenham Hotspur target Adrien Rabiot compares with the club’s current midfielders.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of signing Adrien Rabiot on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 19-year-old midfielder struggles for game-time in Ligue 1 and has been tipped to spend the second half of the season at White Hart Lane, as Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to guide his side up the table and into a European place.

Some Tottenham fans feel Rabiot would be a savvy addition while others have questioned the need for a teenage midfielder with little experience thus far, so how does the Frenchman compare to the players currently at Pochettino’s disposal?

As you can see below, Rabiot has a better passing accuracy this season than any of the Tottenham midfielders listed; with Mousa Dembele (with 88 per cent) the closest to the youngster’s 90.5 per cent.

Rabiot also averages three interceptions per match; better than any of the players listed below with Etienne Capoue the only player to get close to that figure in the Premier League.

Rabiot has only played 290 minutes in Ligue 1 and the Champions League combined this season, but that is no reason not to judge his performances and in the same period of time he has outshone Benjamin Stambouli in every area listed above.

Having recently written an article suggesting Stambouli should be given more chances rather than Tottenham making a temporary move for Rabiot, this writer may have had a rethink.

After all, Rabiot is highly regarded in his homeland and he has shown in his few chances this season that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

If Tottenham want to add more steel and composure to their midfield, Rabiot could be the most likely – and most talented – option when few such players are available.
