Barcelona are reportedly closing in on Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot.
According to new reports from French newspaper Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is all set for a 2019 move to Barcelona.
Just a day after Le10 Sport claimed that Rabiot has ruled out a move to Tottenham Hotspur, it’s believed that he will heading to Catalunya instead.
Rabiot, 23, is out of contract at the end of the season, and having refused to sign a new deal with PSG, Barcelona appears to be his next destination.
With another midfielder heading to the Camp Nou, it seems that any chance of Andre Gomes salvaging his Barcelona career has been ended once and for all – and that may be good news for Spurs in the end.
The Telegraph noted last week that Spurs are keen to land Everton loanee Gomes, and with Rabiot arriving, Gomes is likely to be sold in 2019.
Gomes would still cost a considerable fee, which isn’t quite as enticing as landing Rabiot on a free, but that expected availability should at least still give Spurs a chance to land a top midfielder.
It’s also good news for Everton of course, who would love to sign Gomes permanently, and may feel that they are in the box seat given that he is spending this season at Goodison Park.
The two teams are expected to battle it out for Gomes next summer, and if Rabiot really is Catalunya-bound, then the duo will know that Gomes is almost certainly available, with little chance of Barca keeping him whilst adding Rabiot.
