Allan McGregor returned to Rangers in the summer and has been arguably the Scottish Premiership’s best goalkeeper ever since.

Former Dundee and Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas has paid tribute to Allan McGregor after the veteran’s successful return to Rangers this season, speaking to The Courier.
McGregor won the Scottish Premiership title three times in his first spell at Ibrox and sealed a second spell with the Glasgow giants last summer, joining on a free after his contract at Hull City expired.
And despite turning 37 in January, the experienced shot-stopper has arguably been the best goalkeeper in Scotland’s top flight this season, starring between the sticks for a Rangers side who have made great strides under Steven Gerrard.
Douglas, who won three league titles himself during a stellar spell at Old Firm rivals Celtic, believes that McGregor has been a huge success at Ibrox and has backed his decision to retire from international football earlier in the week as he enters the autumn of his career.
“Maybe Greegsy is more susceptible to wee, niggling injuries the older he gets,” said Douglas, who won 19 caps for Scotland.

“The timing could have been better but at the end of the day he is probably wanting to prolong his career and I can understand that.
“Greegsy will be determined to train as hard as ever and he has been great for Rangers this season. He has had a great career with his country – admittedly with a couple of controversial moments – but we have to respect his decision.”
McGregor’s international retirement is likely to open the door to Celtic’s Scott Bain to establish himself as his country’s number one over the coming years while Sunderland’s Jon McLaughlin will also be hoping to seize his chance.
