Ian Wright told BBC One’s live coverage of Arsenal’s FA Cup clash against Newcastle on Saturday evening that it’s ‘quite worrying’ that Gabriel Martinelli seemingly suffered another injury.

The popular Arsenal player was meant to start Arsenal’s FA Cup win last night, but he was replaced by Reiss Nelson before the game after going down in the warm-up.

Martinelli has just come back from a long-term knee injury, so the last thing he and Arsenal want is for him to face another few months on the sidelines.

Nonetheless, Wright shared his thoughts on Martinelli going down in the warm-up and made it clear about how important he is to this Arsenal side.

“I hope it’s not the knee, some people say it might be the ankle,” said Wright. “But it’s a big blow. It’s a massive blow to him. I think it’s a big blow to Mikel as well.

“He gives that energy and what has coincided with Arsenal’s form. Him and Emile Smith-Rowe. To see him go down like that, it was quite worrying.”

Not many would have thought that Arsenal’s £6 million man [Telegraph] would hold such an important role in this Arsenal side.

But during their weeks and weeks of misery, he has been one of the main guys who has stepped up and added freshness and vibrancy to this Mikel Arteta team.

Either way, Arsenal will be hoping their teenage star is back as soon as possible because it’s four wins on the bounce for those in North London and Martinelli’s presence will only help their rise.
