Gabby Agbonlahor has told Sky Sports News that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish deserves a public explanation as to why England boss Gareth Southgate has been refusing to pick him.
The Aston Villa midfielder starred in a friendly win over Wales earlier in this international break, earning a Man of the Match award.
But Southgate left him on the bench for the whole of last night’s defeat by Denmark, despite the Three Lions needing a goal for much of the game.
Grealish was also benched for the win over Belgium prior to that, after his heroics against Wales.
Thing is, Southgate hasn’t offered much by way of an explanation and former Aston Villa attacker Agbonlahor feels this is particularly ‘quite shocking’.
He said to Sky Sports News: “I don’t understand it and there must be a deeper issue there with Southgate and Grealish. Whenever reporters ask him the question he seems to bring up someone else’s name, which is quite shocking to me.
“Gareth Southgate has to come out and explain because I feel like everyone was in shock.”
You would think that Southgate doesn’t have anything personal against Grealish, because why would he call him into the senior squad if that was the case?
The England boss clearly has his reasons and even if some fans – and pundits – disagree with them, they must be respected.
