Tony Cascarino has admitted that he found Sadio Mane’s comments about the Senegalese people wanting him to leave Liverpool as ‘quite funny’, as he told talkSPORT.
But the former striker did defend the Liverpool star and made it clear that those words could be ‘lost in translation’.
For a number of weeks now, there has been a lot of talk about Mane’s future on Merseyside and interest from Bayern Munich.
It seems as though the Africa Cup of Nations winner wants to leave Anfield to experience a new challenge in his career, which is understandable given that he has won it all on Merseyside.
But, Cascarino made it clear that he wants players at Liverpool that want to be at the club, as he sent a pretty blunt message to Mo Salah also.
“Not really convinced by Mane’s comments, but it’s quite funny,” said Cascarino. “Sometimes these things get lost in translation, so I am always careful.
“I am going to use the same narrative I always use. I want players that want to play for my football club and want to be there.
“I know scenarios change. People want to move and sometimes go to bigger clubs.
“If you are at a club the stature of Liverpool, if the grass is greener elsewhere, then good luck and move on. I always said, if I had to keep Salah or Mane, my answer is I want to keep the one that wants to stay the most.”

LIVERPOOL ARE AT A CROSSROADS WITH THEIR STAR PLAYERS
As of today, both Mane and Salah could argue that they would be picked in an all-time Liverpool XI.
Salah would probably be a certain starter out on the right, whilst Mane would probably have a fight on his hands with a certain John Barnes.
But, either way, losing those two players in the next 12 months is a possibility for Jurgen Klopp.
Whilst Salah will stay at Anfield next season, he still hasn’t signed a new deal, so all of this is still up in the air and those in the boardroom have some seriously big calls to make.
