West Ham United manager David Moyes has told The London Evening Standard that Wolverhampton Wanderers were close to signing Craig Dawson, who was linked with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa as well in the summer transfer window.
Wolves and Aston Villa wanted West Ham United’s Craig Dawson
The London Evening Standard have reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers made a bid of £4 million plus £2 million in add-ons for Dawson.
The defender himself was keen on a move to Wolves, according to the report.
The report has added that West Ham ‘were reluctantly ready’ to sell Dawson, but on the condition that they were able to being in a replacement.
West Ham wanted to sign Jan Bednarek, according to The London Evening Standard, but the defender joined Aston Villa on loan from Southampton.
Interestingly, Dawson was linked with a move to Villa as well.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the Villans had made an approach to West Ham over signing Dawson.
Dawson has scored 19 goals and created eight big chances in 238 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The defender is a very good player, and West Ham are better with him in the squad.
David Moyes’s verdict
Moyes told The London Evening Standard about Dawson: “He was our player so he was always going to be here unless we got something which would suit us and it didn’t work out that way.
“He is here so we are fine with that. Wolves had made an offer and I think it came quite close but it didn’t get over the line.”
