Jack Wilshere has claimed that ‘quite a lot’ of Tottenham fans give him stick for his anti-Spurs chants from when he was an Arsenal player, as he told Tubes’ YouTube channel.
The Arsenal academy product, who is now a free agent, made it clear that ‘nothing mad’ happens and he can accept the ‘banter’ from the Spurs supporters.
When Arsenal won the FA Cup against Hull and Aston Villa in 2014 & 2015, Wilshere led an anti-Spurs chant during the victory parade, which resulted in punishment from the FA.
Wilshere shared how Spurs fans out on the streets are towards him in regards to those incidents, but he made it clear that he is fine with the ‘banter’ that comes his way.
“Spurs fans, when you are walking down the street, are they like ‘you absolute ****?'” Tubes asked Wilshere.
He responded by saying: “Yes, they are. Quite a lot of them are like that. Nothing mad.
“Listen, I can accept that, it’s banter. I think that’s part and parcel of football, as long as they don’t cross the line and they are not aggressive with it.”
Wilshere will now have to watch on from afar to see how things unfold in North London during the forthcoming campaign.
Both Arsenal and Spurs stagnated big time last season, with the latter now having a new man in the dugout in Nuno Espirito Santo.
Those in the Emirates boardroom opted against parting ways with Mikel Arteta, whilst Daniel Levy ruthlessly decided to sack Jose Mourinho before their League Cup final.
It’s going to be interesting to see the reaction with both sets of supporters if they do indeed start slowly next season.
