Tom Huddlestone thinks Tottenham are ‘quite a bit off it’ in the race for the top-four, but he has backed Arsenal and Everton to challenge for those spots this season.

The former Premier League midfielder told talkSPORT (13/09/20 at 5:55 pm) that Arsenal are ‘buying’ into Mikel Arteta’s ideas and Carlo Ancelotti has more squad ‘strength’ than Spurs.

Arsenal recorded a comprehensive opening day win over the weekend, whilst the Toffees secured all three points and a clean sheet against a lacklustre Jose Mourinho side.

Even though he represented Tottenham during his career, Huddlestone was pretty honest when offering his thoughts on the top-four race.

“I think they [Tottenham] look quite a bit off it [in terms of finishing in the top four],” Huddlestone told talkSPORT.

“Arsenal were very good and they seem to be buying into Arteta’s ideas, so they will be a club that weren’t in the top-four last season and will be challenging.

“Even Everton, if they can sustain something similar. They have got a little bit more strength in depth as well, so they will be fancying their chances to push on a little as well, especially with no European football.”

The big problem Mourinho faces, along with the negative results, is the football his side have been playing ever since he stepped foot into the club.

A lot was made of how Spurs lacked energy, zip, fight and creativity during their first game of the season, whilst their opponents from Merseyside looked the opposite.

What doesn’t help Tottenham’s cause is that their neighbours are still on a high from their FA Cup and Community Shield wins, as many are backing them to do the business and get back into the Champions League this term also.
