Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal got the better of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal won the Premier League match against Manchester City 1-0 in North London.

Brazil international forward Gabriel Martinelli scored the only goal of the match in the 86th minute.

It was not exactly one of the best and most entertaining matches this season.

Arsenal and City cancelled out each other for most of the game.

Gary Neville on Martin Odegaard for Arsenal vs Manchester City

Gary Neville was following the match for Sky Sports.

The former Manchester United defender was on co-commentary duty for the game on Sky Sports Premier League.

And he noted that Odegaard was “quiet”.

Neville said in the 72nd minute (6:01pm, October 8, 2023):”To say Rodri has not played, the star holding midfield player, they have kept Odegaard as quiet as I have seen him.

“They have not allowed him space to get on the half turn and operate as he likes to.”

My View: Martin Odegaard could have done better for Arsenal

In my opinion, Martin Odegaard could have done better for Arsenal against Manchester City on Sunday.

While Odegaard pressed in the final third and helped out defensively a well, he could not find enough space to weave his magic.

City did not allow the 24-year-old Norway international attacking midfielder to play his natural game.

The former Real Madrid player went missing.

Odegaard took three shots and none of them was on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 85.7%, took 61 touches, attempted one dribble, made four tackles and one interception, and put in five crosses.
