Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he was very impressed by Gaetano Berardi’s defending last night.
Berardi came on after 12 minutes for Leeds, when Liam Cooper picked up an injury, and was then taken off at half-time.
But Bielsa insists that the switch was not to do with Berardi’s performance.
Indeed, the Argentine boss claims that the Leeds defender actually impressed him with the way he was playing.
“The first period Berardi was on the pitch I think he defended very well without making fouls,” Bielsa insisted.
“Very flexible, quick with the ball, but when I decided to put Alioski on the pitch.”
Berardi’s involvement in Leeds’ future matches is likely to depend on Liam Cooper’s fitness.
Cooper may have picked up a problem, but Bielsa said after the game that the injury is not expected to be too serious.
That could mean that Berardi is back on the bench for Leeds in the coming weeks.
The Whites are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
