One of the Liverpool players who has come to the fore in recent weeks is Joe Gomez, and Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent has been hugely impressed.
Joe Gomez has been superb for Liverpool lately and has established himself as an important player in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Liverpool manager Klopp has deployed the 26-year-old at centre-back, right-back and left-back.
England head coach Gareth Southgate has included Gomez in his squad for upcoming matches this month, and Darren Bent is pleased.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker and Sky Sports pundit has noted the attributes that Gomez has that would make him an asset for England at the Euro 2024 finals.
Darren Bent praises Liverpool defender Joe Gomez
Bent said about Gomez on Sky Sports News (12:39 pm, March 16, 2024): “Also, the one thing that the England backline other than Kyle Walker lack is pace, and he is quick, Joe Gomez, if you know what I mean.
“You put him in at left-back, and we know the situation with Kieran Trippier, he has been injured, Chilwell, he could get himself injured.”

The pundit added: “With someone like Gomez, he is quick and powerful, very rarely do people get past him. I think his positional play has got better as well. Of course, it helps him playing alongside someone like Virgil van Dijk, that will help, keeping him calm.
“He thoroughly deserves his place in the England squad. I think he will go to the Euros simply because of the fact he can play centre-back, right-back and left-back. You need players with that versatility when you are going to a major competition.”
My View: Joe Gomez deserves the plaudits
In my opinion, Joe Gomez deserves all the praise that he is getting at the moment. I think that the defender has been playing well for Liverpool.
Gomez is 26 now and is a squad player at Liverpool. But, he has been doing well in recent weeks, and I think that he deserves his place in the latest England squad.
Gomez has made 40 appearances for Liverpool this season. He has given three assists in those games.
It will be interesting to see if England head coach Gareth Southgate does take Gomez to the Euro 2024 finals.
I do not think that Gomez will get into the starting lineup, but given his versatility, he would be a good option to have in the Three Lions squad.
