Queens Park Rangers beat Birmingham City 2-0 at Loftus Road yesterday.

Massimo Luongo has praised Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink for his team selection against Birmingham City on Queens Park Rangers’ official website.

Hasselbaink made three changes to QPR’s starting line-up for their match against Birmingham, and all three worked perfectly as the London club put in one of their most encouraging performances under the Dutchman’s stewardship so far.

QPR beat Birmingham 2-0 with Tjaronn Chery, who was one of the players Hasselbaink brought into QPR’s line-up, starring in the contest.

And Luongo said: “The manager made three changes to the team, and I think that helped. Having [Tjaronn] Chery in there offers you something different. You can give him the ball, and you know he’ll take care of it. He’ll also threaten. It gives the opposition something to worry about.

“Having him and Junior [Hoilett] in there, as well as Matty [Phillips, who retained his place] was great for us.”

QPR took the lead in the first half through Chery, before Junior Hoilett netted a penalty to give Hasselbaink’s men a commanding lead.

After gaining the two-goal advantage, QPR rarely looked threatened and they highlighted the quality they have in their squad.

The Blues are challenging for the play-offs this term, but QPR largely dominated the contest against them.

The R’s have performed below expectations this term, but if they can keep this level of performance up they should climb up the Championship table between now and May.

The victory was only Rangers’ third since Hasselbaink took charge, but they are now unbeaten in their last three matches.
