Dorking Wanderers’ manager and chairman has told the Surrey Mirror that a string of Football League clubs, among them Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City, are keeping tabs on three of his side’s youngsters.
Wingers Matt Briggs, Sam Beard and Tom Summerfield have each attracted interest in recent weeks, according to Dorking chief Marc White.
Briggs already has a trial lined up at Millwall and one other unnamed Football League club, and 17-year-olds Beard and Summerfield could be next in line to gain a taste of life higher up the ladder.
White, whose side are currently top of the Isthmian League Division One South – the eighth tier of English football, described the interest in the trio as ‘flattering’.
“In the past three months the club has been in new territory with a succession of scouts from Championship, League One and League Two clubs descending upon our games,” White said.
“These scouts have been coming down to watch Matt Briggs, who has a trial at Millwall and also another football league club pending.

“Also, in recent weeks there’s been a large amount of interest in both Sam Beard and Tom Summerfield, who have quickly established themselves in our first team squad at just 17 years old.
“It’s flattering for both the club and players to receive such interest, and clearly links to the clubs good start to the season.
“A wide range of clubs have been keeping tabs on the three youngsters, including Queens Park Rangers, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Southend and Bristol Rovers.”
Bristol City stars Aden Flint and Lee Tomlin both began life in non-league, as did QPR striker and Northern Ireland international Conor Washington, which will no doubt serve as encouragement to the Dorking trio, where they to move to either club.

Surrey side Dorking are based 118 miles from the Robins’ Ashton Gate ground, with the R’s Loftus Road home only 23 miles away.
