Wolves ‘keeper Carl Ikeme is confident that the club’s many ‘quality’ summer signings will be able to adapt quickly to life at the Championship club.

30-year-old Ikeme, who has been capped four times by Nigeria, has been at the West Midlands club for over 13 years – making 194 appearances across all competitions.

Now, with Wolves possessing one of their strongest squads in a number of years – having brought in 13 players over the course of the summer transfer window – the Sutton-born goalkeeper is confident the squad will be able to gel quickly, and will benefit from the increased squad rotation.

Speaking to the Wolves Express and Star, Ikeme said “We have got a big squad now and the gaffer wants to keep everyone involved so I think we will see a lot of rotation and everyone will feel they are close to playing.

“It is probably in stark contrast to what we had last season and even the season before.

“There was the chance to bring people like Jon [Dadi Bodvarsson] and Mase ]Joe Mason] off the bench who can change the game.

“Previously we have had a good starting 11 but maybe not impact players who can come on and make a difference from the bench.

“We have got that now, and I think everyone is going to be involved and that is what the gaffer wants.”

Wolves has impressed many with their summer transfer activity, securing the signings of a number of big-name players, including Ola John, Joao Teixeira, Helder Costa, and Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Despite their summer spending spree however, the Wanderers have started their Championship campaign in a lacklustre fashion, winning just two of their first six games – scoring eight goals and conceding five in the process.

However, after drawing their last game 1-1 to Burton Albion – a game in which Ikeme saved a crucial penalty to keep the score at 0-0 – Wolves will be hoping they can improve their recent form with a win against newly-promoted Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Barnsley have been performing above all expectations thus far this season, with the South Yorkshire team currently sitting in third place in the Championship, after having won four of their opening six matches.
