According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United are interested in a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
Dembele is a familiar name to many British football fans. He’s played for both Fulham and Celtic in the past, shining at both clubs.
Since departing the UK, Dembele has established himself as a truly quality striker in Europe. He hit 31 goals in his first two Ligue 1 seasons, while his performances for Lyon earned him a loan move to Atletico Madrid last January.
Dembele is a fantastic player, but you shouldn’t just take our word for it. Even Pep Guardiola has been full of praise for him in the past.
What’s Guardiola said about Dembele?
Guardiola had good things to say about the Frenchman back in 2016 ahead of City’s clash against Celtic.
“If you read the newspapers in the last six months, since I became a coach at Manchester City maybe I have had contact with 126 players.
“Dembele is another one. But the quality in Dembele is there. He is an exceptional player.”

Came back to bite him
Guardiola may have been full of praise for Dembele in 2016, but we can imagine he had a few choice words for him in 2020.
Indeed, Dembele netted twice for Lyon as the eliminated Manchester City in the Champions League Quarter-Finals.
Dembele has a brilliant CV and if Guardiola thinks you’re an exceptional player, then you have to have something special about you.
Newcastle would be getting a great player if they can pull this deal off.
