QPR defender and former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has sent a message on Twitter appearing to reference Wigan owner Dave Whelan.
QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has sent a Twitter message appearing to be in response to comments from Wigan’s Dave Whelan.
While not referencing him specifically, given Whelan’s comments in defence of the appointment of Malky Mackay as Latics boss, it’s hard to envision to who else they refer.
Whelan had spoken out at a press conference earlier in the day, defending Mackay who is under FA investigation after alleged racist texts sent from his phone while manager of Cardiff City.
In an interview with the Guardian, Whelan stated: “Jewish people chase money more than everybody else. It’s telling the truth. Jewish people love money, English people love money; we all love money.”
He also went onto add that use of the word ‘chink’ in reference to Chinese people was in his view, in-offensive.
It is not clear if the FA will act upon Whelan’s comments.
