Russell Martin is likely to move on from Norwich City this summer and Queens Park Rangers should not rule out a bid.

Queens Park Rangers have offered little in the transfer window so far but, with Steve McClaren’s side in need of defenders, Russell Martin could prove a valuable loan signing from Norwich City.

The former Glasgow Rangers loanee has been training with the Canaries’ U23 side and has been told by manager Daniel Farke he has no future at Carrow Road, as reported by the Glasgow Evening Times.

QPR have already been dealt a blow with Darnell Furlong being ruled out for three months and Martin’s experience would be invaluable to the R’s back line if he were to join. The former Wycombe man played over 300 games for Norwich and starred as right-back during their recent Premier League stints.

McClaren does not have much in the way of funds to mould his side but, with Martin available to loan or buy, Rangers should take a gamble on the 32-year-old. A season-long loan or even six months will prove the best option as QPR try to tighten their leaky defence.

The west Londoners shipped 70 goals last year and, after the departure of goalkeeper Alex Smithies and three first-team defenders, McClaren’s side could reap the benefits of having the Norwich man in the side.

Admittedly, Martin struggled while on loan at Scottish giants Rangers in the second half of last season but, with a fresh start and the chance to play Championship football again, Martin and QPR could prove a smart fit.
