English Championship side Queens Park Rangers are set to release winger Jamie Mackie on a free transfer at the end of his contract this summer – surely he would be the perfect summer signing for Rangers?

QPR confirmed on their official website that the 32-year-old will leave the London-based side in a handful of months after failing to earn a new deal under manager Ian Holloway.

Ian Holloway, Manager of Queens Park Rangers looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Queens Park Rangers at Craven Cottage on March 17, 2018 in London, England.

A nine-time Scotland international, Mackie boasts power, strength and aerial prowess that is rare in a player with such good footwork. He also offers versatility, as he can almost play everywhere or anywhere in the final third.

The Gers’ finances are certainly questionable and signing players on free transfers or indeed as a nominal fee will be at the forefront of whoever is in charge come the summer at Ibrox.

Jamie Mackie of Scotland celebrates after scoring during the international friendly match between Scotland and the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie on November 16, 2010 in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Mackie fits the bill, as he will be a free agent by the time the summer transfer window comes around. His hard-working style of player and determined persona would make Rangers foolish if they were to overlook the attacker.

Landing Mackie on a free transfer in the summer would come as a major coup, and the former Reading and Nottingham Forest star could be just the player Rangers need to close the gap between themselves and Celtic.
