Queens Park Rangers are set to open contract talks with captain Nedum Onuoha in January.
Onuoha’s current deal expires at the end of the season and QPR are eager to retain the services of the 31-year-old, as reported by Get West London.
The report indicates that Onuoha is one of QPR’s highest earners, meaning that he would have to take a pay cut to stay at the club in line with their new wage structure.
After starting QPR’s first seven Championship games of the season, Onuoha has been sidelined for over two months with injury but he is closing in on a return to action.
QPR have lacked consistency so far this season and are in 15th place in the Championship table, with Ian Holloway’s side eager to ensure that they don’t become embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation.
Next up for QPR is a home game against Aston Villa on Saturday, which is followed by a midweek trip to take on Derby County, with the Hoops aiming to edge closer to the top half of the table.
Onuoha has amassed 201 appearances for QPR since joining the club from Manchester City in 2012.
