Peter Crouch started his professional career with QPR and envisages a return to west London one day.
Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has admitted that he would “love” to make a return to the club where it all began – Queens Park Rangers. The former England hitman has also expressed his desire to carry on playing until he is 40-years-old, as reported by ITV Sport.
Crouch became something of a cult hero at Loftus Road when he scored 12 goals in his first season as a professional, before moving onto Portsmouth after the Rs tasted relegation in 2001.
Even at the age of 37, Crouch would be welcomed with open arms by all at Loftus Road.
The former Liverpool striker told ITV Sport: “I’ve played for quite a few clubs but quite a few of them I hold dearly, really. I think QPR is one of my favourites because that’s where I started.
“My friends and family are QPR fans, as well, so that’s one that is really close to my heart and I always said I would go back there one day and I would love to go back there.”
Frustratingly, Steve McClaren’s side wouldn’t be able to try and manufacture any deal for Crouch this season, owing to the January transfer embargo enforced by FFP in July.
Stoke themselves aren’t likely at this stage to offer Crouch new terms – whose deal expires next summer – so it does pave the way for a potential return to W12 in the summer of 2019.
The Rs do have plenty of options up top but with the possible re-signing of Crouch, they’d be a much more potent goal threat with the former Tottenham Hotspur academy player in tow.
QPR fans would love to see Crouch don the blue and white shirt once again, but might have to wait patiently for that dream to come true.
