Veteran goalkeeper Rob Green registered another clanger during Leeds United’s defeat to Newcastle United.

The shot stopper’s poor handling was exposed in the 2-0 loss, with his error responsible for Dwight Gayle’s opening goal.

Green issued an apology after the game, sending a message to Leeds fans on Twitter, obviously stating the he had no intention to make the error.

Green’s insistence on moving on to the next game shows he is already looking to make amends, and lets face it, he has had plenty of experience at doing so during his career – who can forget his 2010 World Cup nightmare for England against USA?

Figures from The BBC show that since 2012, Green has made 20 errors directly leading to goals conceded.

Most worrying for Leeds is his tendency to do so in big games, with this error coming in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Elland Road.

His first big error for the club came on his full debut on the opening day, against his old side QPR.

Green was released by QPR in the summer, and his move to Leeds came as a surprise. He has largely been a steady influence for the Whites, but unfortunately, he is always going to pop up with a clanger or two, and often at an opportune moment.

Fans of his former club QPR spared no mercy for the goalkeeper, mocking him via Twitter…
