Alex Smithies has left Queens Park Rangers after three seasons and joins up with Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds.
Queens Park Rangers have been dealt a blow before the season has even started after goalkeeper Alex Smithies left the club for Cardiff City.
The Premier League new boys completed the deal on Thursday for Smithies, which will see QPR receive an initial £3 million with £500,000 potentially to come from add-ons.
Smithies is expected to challenge Neil Etheridge for the No.1 jersey as Cardiff look forward to their Premier League adventure, but QPR fans will be left somewhat bemused by the transfer fee itself.

Nobody can deny Smithies his the chance to showcase his obvious talents in the Premier League, but the hierarchy at the west London club have certainly ruffled a few feathers among the R’s faithful.
Regarded as one of QPR’s best players in recent seasons, the transfer fee has certainly generated a lot of reaction from a section of fans online, with most believing the club could have got more for the 28-year-old ‘keeper.
