Queens Park Rangers prospect Ryan Manning is currently on loan at Rotherham and scored his first goal for the club last weekend.

Ryan Manning has had a positive impact in his short time at Rotherham United but the midfielder has caused quite a stir among supporters of his parent club Queens Park Rangers.

The 22-year-old scored from the spot as Rotherham edged past Derby County 1-0 on Saturday, but it was Manning’s choice of celebration that has got QPR fans talking on Twitter.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international kissed the Rotherham badge as he celebrated his goal and Hoops fans initially seemed divided on Manning’s actions. It is a talking point than can be argued from both sides.

Many at QPR still feel Manning should be part of Steve McClaren’s side, but the R’s boss has allowed the Galway-born man to get some vital minutes under his belt.

That in itself, coupled with Manning’s strong performances so far, has certainly appeased the section of Rangers fans who were happy to see him go out on loan for the season.

In modern day football, badge-kissing is in essence a minor talking point, but the fact this scenario involves a player who is only on loan at a club will generate an expected debate.

Manning’s future appears unclear at this point but the talented midfielder can certainly be a boost to most Championship sides, including QPR. The kiss would have likely upset those who strongly believe he should still be in McClaren’s plans.

Ultimately, the west Londoners were happy to farm Manning out to a league rival and why shouldn’t he display passion when scoring? From a QPR perspective – if it is a one-off – then so be it.

On reflection, it does perhaps create a murmur of disrespect to your employers but, as the Millers are paying Manning’s wages currently, the majority of QPR fans cannot really grumble.

Granted, if it became a regular thing then Manning’s future would need to be resolved but, for now, the youngster should enjoy his football and R’s supporters can look forward to the return of a better player next summer.
