Craig Burley says candidates such as ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be ‘put off’ by taking the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job if Harry Kane leaves the club in the summer.

After Antonio Conte’s outburst about Tottenham, the Italian is facing the sack and there is talk that Thomas Tuchel could be a possible candidate to replace him.

The German was sacked by Chelsea in September and replaced by Graham Potter, who has the West London club sitting tenth in the Premier League table and 11 points behind fourth-placed Spurs.

Many will agree that Conte’s time in north London is up, whether he is booted out now, or in the summer.

But that next man in the dugout will be surely asking a lot of questions if he were to take the Tottenham gig, with the biggest one being about Harry Kane’s future – Thierry Henry, for one, thinks the England captain should leave.

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley thinks if Kane heads for the exit door, then Tuchel won’t be taking the job, as he told ESPN.

“If Man United want to go to the next level, then they need to get Kane,” said Burley. “He is just such a good footballer, all-round, not just his goals.

“He’s guaranteed goals, isn’t he?! The difficulty is that if you are trying to tempt a Thomas Tuchel, or somebody to the club, if any of these managers get a sniff that Harry Kane is going, then that’s going to put them off as well.”

TOTTENHAM NEED A LONG-TERM COACH

Whatever road Daniel Levy decides to go down, one thing is for sure, he now needs that long-term coach to take the club forward.

Aside from Nuno Espirito Santo, the two trophy-laden coaches haven’t worked out. Many feel that gives Spurs more of a negative look rather than Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Thomas Tuchel would fit that bill for the long-term, but why would he join Spurs given the cries from Conte and the real chance that Kane leaves?
