‘Put his foot down’: Journalist says former Spurs man is stopping Tottenham signing 23-year-old

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Tottenham and their interest in Nicolo Zaniolo.

Jacobs is well clued up on this situation, and according to the journalist a move to north London may not materialise for the Italian.

Indeed, while the reporter states that the midfielder is a player to keep an eye on, he states that Jose Mourinho has put his foot down and blocked this transfer, claiming that Mourinho has much more sway than most managers when it comes to things like this.

Jacobs shared what he knows about Zaniolo and Mourinho.

“Definitely a player to keep an eye on between now and when the window ends, but preface that with the fact that Mourinho has put his foot down and said ‘no’, when Mourinho says he doesn’t want to sell a player he has a lot more authority than most managers. If Spurs had lined this up earlier it would have been intriguing because Mourinho was frustrated with Zaniolo, but he knows what he’s got in terms of age and talent,” Jacobs said.

Jose Mourinho is the type of manager that gets his way when it comes to things like this.

Yes, his time at Tottenham didn’t work out, but he’s still one of the most well-respected gaffers in the game, and no chairman would ever dare to sell a star player behind his back.

Mourinho wants Zaniolo to stay, and that may mean that Spurs’ pursuit of the player is all-but over.

Whether or not that leads to Spurs going down a different avenue remains to be seen, but it sounds as though a move for Zaniolo is off the cards at this point in time.
