Darragh MacAnthony has backed Ivan Toney to make a transfer away from Brentford by adding ‘put him in Liverpool’s team’.

The Peterborough United chairman added that Ivan Toney, who is currently serving a ban and will return on January 16 (Sky Sports), is worth ‘£70-85 million’ in the transfer market.

Added to that, the Irish businessman also feels that Ivan Toney, who has never played in Europe or won a major trophy, ‘guarantees you the Premier League title’, as he told talkSPORT

Thomas Frank has openly spoken about Brentford selling Ivan Toney, so it seems as though it will happen, it’s just a case of where will he end up.

You would think that Liverpool’s door is closed because they are well and truly blessed with attacking talent.

Saying that, it will be interesting to see how the Reds react if they sell Mohamed Salah anytime soon because that Saudi Pro League door might knock again.

Either way, Darragh MacAnthony, who is chairman of League One side Peterborough United and also a Liverpool fan, shared his thoughts on Ivan Toney, who he sold to Brentford in 2020.

Ivan Toney’s future

“How much is he worth, for me?” said MacAnthony.  “I think the type of striker he is, when he is in form, anywhere between £70-85 million if you look at the market.

“He will guarantee one of those clubs (Arsenal and Chelsea) the title – I think he has the best years ahead of him and I think he is a game-changer – he is getting better every year. You have just done the stats. 11 goals and then 20 goals. If he was in from the start this season, then he would have 25 goals this season and Brentford would probably be top six.

“Put him in Liverpool’s team. Put him in Newcastle’s team. Put him in Arsenal’s team with the chances they create.

“He isn’t a pacey type of striker. He is a target man. Players burn out quickly with pace. Players with that kind of physicality play longer careers. And technically unbelievable.”

Ivan Toney – The Liverpool fan

It needs to be noted that the 27-year-old is a boyhood Liverpool fan after he recently spoke about it when serving his ban.

Given that Liverpool have Darwin Nunez, then even if Salah leaves, it’s not going to be a player like Toney that they sign.

But that doesn’t mean that the England international won’t get that transfer to a Champions League side – Europa League Conference champions, West Ham United, have been tipped to sign Toney.

As soon as Toney returns from his ban, expect the phone to ring like crazy because the top teams in Europe will want to snap him up as soon as possible.
