Tam McManus has claimed on Twitter that Celtic “messed” Steven Fletcher about following the striker’s decision to move to Stoke City.
Fletcher has joined Stoke in the Championship in England on a free transfer, with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland striker having left Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer.
Former Hibernian forward McManus, who now works as a pundit for PLZ Soccer, claimed on Twitter on July 25 that the Scotland international forward was keen on a move to the Hoops.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon subsequently told Sky Sports that the club were in talks with the 33-year-old.
However, those talks did not come to any fruition, with Fletcher having now joined Stoke, who will be aiming to challenge for automatic promotion from the Championship next season.
Long-term signing
While Fletcher is a good and established striker, he would have been a short-term signing for Celtic.
Celtic have secured the services of Albian Ajeti from West Ham United, with the striker expected to turn on the style at the Hoops after failing to make his mark at the London Stadium this past season.
The Switzerland international is 23 years of age, and there is room for improvement in his game.
