A host of notable names, including Gary Lineker and David Gold, have taken to Twitter to offer their views on Aaron Cresswell’s controversial sending off for West Ham against Crystal Palace.
West Ham picked up a vital win on Saturday evening, as after just one victory in their first seven games, they grabbed a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park thanks to Manuel Lanzini’s goal.

The Hammers had to hang on late in the day, as they were reduced to 10 men after Aaron Cresswell was controversially sent off for two yellow cards in as many minutes.
The left back – returning from a lengthy injury – enjoyed a superb performance before being harshly booked for diving inside the penalty area when he appeared to be fouled, and less than two minutes later he was booked again for a soft foul on Wilfried Zaha.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will be frustrated to have seen Cresswell given his marching orders, given that both yellow cards were highly contentious – and a host of notable names have offered their views on Twitter.
Pundits Gary Lineker, Phil Neville and Richards Keys all conveyed their dismay with the decisions, stating that Cresswell should never have been sent off.

Former West Ham players Danny Gabbidon, Don Hutchison and Matthew Etherington were all stunned by the decision, with Etherington noting that the poor decision from referee Martin Atkinson could have cost West Ham points.
Finally, the club’s co-chairman David Gold took to Twitter to state that there was ‘no justice’ from the referee, as he was denied a clear penalty – and was clearly angry with the rules that West Ham can’t appeal the decision as it was two yellow cards rather than a straight red.
