Manchester United take on Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League, and HITC pundits give their predictions on the likely outcome.
Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea
Manchester United’s home form has been poor this season, and they have two losses to Chelsea on their record away from home, so admittedly a victory for the Red Devils lacks a bit of logic. Call it a gut feeling, but Jose Mourinho’s side will find a way to get the three points and throw the title race wide open.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho
Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
Even after Ander Herrera’s red card, there was little to choose between United and Chelsea in the recent FA Cup clash at Stamford Bridge. Therefore, expect a nervy, pragmatic encounter, and perhaps even another home stalemate for Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
Manchester United 1-2 Chelsea
Could Manchester United’s 21 game unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end at the hands of the champions elect? I think it could. Whilst a draw would seem the most likely result, Tottenham are applying some pressure to Chelsea now, and as a superior unit to Manchester United, they should have enough about them to beat Jose Mourinho’s men. Chelsea have bounced back from their defeat to Crystal Palace with wins over Manchester City and Bournemouth, a win at Old Trafford would leave them with one hand on the title.
Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
As good as Chelsea have been over the last few months, Manchester United at home is always a difficult fixture, especially against Jose Mourinho. I accept the game to be a somewhat cagey affair, and for the game to be won on fine margins. Expect a lot of defending and not a lot of goals!
Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
Is something going to give between these two teams? United have a long unbeaten record and Chelsea remain at the top of the tree, I think inevitably it will be a tight draw, with Zlatan putting the home side in the lead, only for the Blues to peg them back.
Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Manchester United 1-2 Chelsea
United haven’t lost a league game since October’s trip to Stamford Bridge and it would be fitting if the Blues were the ones to end their former boss’ run. The Red Devils have been disappointing at home, while Chelsea are in champions mode, it seems.
