Chris Sutton was extremely complimentary via BBC Sport about former Arsenal striker Takuma Asano’s brilliant winner against Germany.
As Japan were level 1-1 with Hansi Flick’s side, the ex-Gunners forward, who was sold by the club in 2019 took a sublime first touch off a long ball, before slotting the ball into the roof of the net.

In a game where the Germans were expected to make light work of the Japanese, it was Asano that ended up making the difference with a truly stunning strike.
So much so that several fans already have crowned his goal as the best goal of the World Cup up until this point.
Sutton praises Asano
Former Blackburn Rovers striker and active pundit, Chris Sutton waxed lyrical about the ex-Arsenal star, Takuma Asano, as he scored a superb winner against Die Mannschaft in Japan’s 2-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
“What dreadful defending from the Germans. Asano lifts the ball into the net over Neuer, it’s a great first touch and a stunning finish. What a comeback!”, he said via BBC Sport.
There is no disagreeing with the former England international’s assessment, as Asano showed incredible amounts of composure and technique to put the Germans to the sword.
And the fact that a striker of Sutton’s standing in the game was impressed by the ex-Gunners goalscorer is telling of how excellent the goal was.
Seeing that strike, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal may be tempted to re-signing Takuma Asano, who is currently plying his trade for VFL Bochum in the Bundesliga.
