Chris Sutton has suggested that he would be worried by Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ comments in the Daily Mail.

Maitland-Miles has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer, but was named as Man of the Match in their Community Shield victory at the weekend.

The youngster was outstanding as Arsenal secured a victory over Liverpool at Wembley on penalties, and he even stepped up to score from 12-yards in the shoot out.

Maitland-Niles was asked about his future after the game, and was giving little away.

But Sutton suggested that he sounded like a player on his way out at Arsenal.

“Maitland-Niles was asked about his future with him being linked to Wolves, who have just let their wing back Matt Doherty join Tottenham,” Sutton said.

“His answer — ‘I am an Arsenal player until I am told otherwise’ — did not sound like someone who is set to stay.

“If I was an Arsenal decision-maker, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to get rid of Maitland-Niles, who still has three years on his contract.

“Arteta would be better off with him than without him.”

Despite Sutton’s worries, it seems that Arsenal are hoping to keep the 22-year-old.

The Daily Mirror suggest that Arsenal have done a u-turn over Maitland-Niles’s future and now want to keep hold of him.

The youngster’s ability to play at right-back and in central midfield surely makes him a valuable asset.

And his form over recent months means that he may just have earned himself a starting spot in Arteta’s side for the start of next season.
