Will Tom Davies get the nod for Everton?

While Liverpool have been consumed by last night’s Champions League tie, rivals Everton are focused on this weekend’s Merseyside derby.

The Toffees are looking to bounce back from defeat to Manchester City by getting a result against Liverpool.

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has urged Everton to consider playing midfielder Tom Davies against the Reds, believing the teenager can play a major role in the derby.

Speaking to Everton’s official website, Hutchison said: “He is exactly the sort of player you want in your midfield in a derby match and I think he is at his best when he plays right on the edge.

“I love everything about him. I love his tenacity. I love the fact he can get goals and run from midfield – and there are not many players who do that now.”

Davies, 19, has made 17 starts for Everton this season in the Premier League, plus a further 11 appearances from the bench.

Despite playing regularly he has lacked consistency, and has only one goal and one assist to his name, while amassing six yellow cards.

He has not completed 90 minutes since February, with his goal coming in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace that same month.

Seeing his name on the teamsheet may not give Liverpool many headaches, but under rating him may be the worst thing the Reds could do.
