Gabby Agbonlahor thinks ‘£33 million’ will be enough for Aston Villa to get a deal for Arsenal talent, Emile Smith Rowe, ‘over the line’, as he wrote on Sky Sports Instagram page.
The Athletic have reported that Aston Villa’s latest offer for the Hale-End academy product – worth around £30 million – has been turned down by Arsenal.
Smith Rowe is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners and Villa don’t seem to be going away in their pursuit of the creative ball-carrier.
For Villa to go back in for his talents again probably isn’t good news for the Gunners.
The Midlands outfit – amongst these Smith Rowe contract talks – must know or are hearing something which suggests to them that this deal is possible.
Nonetheless, when Sky Sports posted on their Instagram page about the latest Smith Rowe rumour, Agbonlahor shared what’s needed for the surprise transfer to take place.
“One more at £33 million should get it over the line,” he wrote in the comments section.
This is perhaps a story not many expected at the start of the transfer window, but it’s not going away and it’s interesting to know Villa’s motives behind it all.
They seem hell-bent on adding his talents to their progressive squad, who are hoping to finish in Europe next season.
Signing someone like the expert-ball carrier takes Villa closer to their next goal, but it would still be a huge surprise if Arsenal let him leave.
Arsenal aren’t exactly in a great position themselves after finishing out of the European places for the first time in 25 years last season.
And if those in the Emirates boardroom are serious about getting back on track then they need to show the ambition by penning one of their key players down to a new deal.
