Moise Kean made a mistake leaving Everton for a loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain, former Premier League striker Stan Collymore has told The Mirror (27 October, page 53).

On the face of it, a year in the French capital could be the making of a £27 million striker who needed a fresh start after an ill-fated debut season on Merseyside.

With Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler and co providing ammunition, Kean should not be short of goalscoring chances in Thomas Tuchel’s all-conquering side after all.

The former Juventus wonderkid opened his account for the Ligue 1 champions with a clinical brace during a 4-0 thrashing of Dijon over the weekend, shortly before Everton drew a rare blank away at a well-drilled Southampton side.

But Collymore believes Kean’s well-taken brace may be not be the positive sign it appears.

“Moise Kean’s two goal salvo at the weekend showed exactly why Dele Alli, or any other big-name Premier League star, should resist the temptation to join PSG,” the former Liverpool and Aston Villa ace says.

“Ligue 1 is so easy for PSG that I’m surprised they sometimes don’t give the kit man a run out.

“And while Kean is a talented boy and it’s nice to see him smile again, he is proof that if you want to be a truly top-class player you have to be playing in England, Spain, maybe Italy, but not France.”

Just to play devil’s advocate for a second, surely Everton will benefit if Kean returns next year on the back of a confidence-boosting, goal-laden spell at a PSG side who will surely end the season with a couple of pieces of silverware under their arms?

Playing and scoring regularly at PSG, while learning every day alongside Neymar, Mbappe and co, could do this Italy international the world of good.
