Tony Cascarino has said on talkSPORT that Gareth Bale’s agent’s comments his week would not have gone down well at Tottenham Hotspur.
Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, told BBC Sport this week that the winger is “towards the end of his career”.
The 31-year-old returned to Spurs on loan from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2020.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, believes that Barnett’s comments would not have pleased Bale’s Tottenham teammates, head coach Jose Mourinho or chairman Daniel Levy.
Cascarino said on talkSPORT: “I didn’t like the comments from his agent, that Gareth’s basically ready for retirement and nearing the end of his career.
“Imagine you’re a colleague in the dressing room and you’re thinking, ‘so you’ve come here to prepare for retirement?’
“Look, Gareth has said nothing, this is his agent, but if you’re the club or Daniel Levy or Jose Mourinho, you’d be left thinking, ‘this player has come here to have a bit of a break and enjoy himself’.”

Bale is 31 years of age and has had injury problems over the past two or so years.
There is a lot more to come from the Welshman, who can still get back to his best if he is given a regular run in the team.
What Bales needs now is for Mourinho to give him confidence, start him regularly in the team, and allow him to express himself on the pitch.
