Tam McManus has praised Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn on Twitter for his performance for Scotland last night.
The former Hibernian forward was impressed with the display produced by McGinn during Scotland’s win against Israel at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Thursday evening.
Steve Clarke’s side beat Israel 5-3 on penalties after the European Championship Qualifying Group C game ended goalless following extra time.
The result means that Scotland now need to beat Serbia on November 12 to book their place in the European Championship next summer.
Scotsman McManus – who now works as a pundit for PLZ Soccer – was following the match, and he has raved about McGinn, who joined Villa from Hibernian in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by The Times to be worth £2.75 million.
Stats
According to WhoScored, McGinn took four shots of which none was on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 90.6%, took 52 touches, made two tackles, one interception and two clearances, and put in three crosses.
So far this season, the 25-year-old midfielder has scored three goals and provided three assists in three Premier League games for Villa, according to WhoScored.
