Glenn Hoddle has outlined in The Daily Mail what Tottenham Hotspur’s target should be this season.

The former Tottenham midfielder believes that the North London outfit should attempt to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Hoddle has also stated that Spurs should be aiming to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.

The former AS Monaco and Chelsea midfielder, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, has suggested that Tottenham should follow the lead of their bitter North London rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners regularly finish in the top four of the Premier League and progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

“But what would be a fantastic season for them would be a good run in the Champions League to the quarter-finals and to finish in the top four,” Hoddle wrote about Tottenham in The Daily Mail.

“That’s not being defeatist. It’s about building the club for the future. Tottenham need to establish themselves as a Champions League side.

“You can criticise Arsenal’s failure to make an impact on the tournament, but what you can’t take issue with is the fact that they established a dominance over Tottenham in the past 20 years by hitting the Champions League season after season.

“That is what has allowed them to establish a reputation and to attract better players.”

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in England and are an established Champions League team.

Tottenham consistently challenge for the top four, but more often than not, they end up outside the Champions League places.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side enjoyed a great 2015-16 campaign, but they still finished behind Arsenal in the league table.

Spurs will kick off their 2016-17 Champions League campaign with a match against French club Monaco in Group E at the Wembley Stadium in London on Wednesday evening.
