Sunderland will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke has suggested on Premierleague.com that Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt will be under pressure against Tottenham Hotspur.
Sunderland will take on Tottenham away from home at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Clarke, who now works as a pundit, believes that 26-year-old left-back Van Aanholt will be under pressure during the game.
“While Spurs have the ability to come at you from all angles, they are particularly powerful down the right, where they have accurately picked out runners in the box,” Clarke wrote on Premierleague.com.
“Five of Spurs’ seven PL goals this season have stemmed from forays down this side. Kyle Walker has laid on two quality assists, while Eric Dier and Christian Eriksen have also chipped in.
“This will sound alarm bells for Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt, who struggled on Monday. The Dutchman adds pace and verve in the attacking third but his lack of a natural defensive instinct was exposed during the loss to Everton.”
Van Aanholt is a decent defender and looks good while attacking, but defensively he is often exposed.
The Netherlands international has scored one goal and created four chances in four Premier League appearances for Sunderland so far this season.
The Black Cats are not playing well at the moment and look set for yet another relegation battle.
Tottenham are in better form and will head into the match against Sunderland as favourites.
It is hard to see David Moyes’s side get anything from the match at White Hart Lane, and one suspects that Spurs striker Harry Kane will fancy scoring a goal or two.
Sunderland will head into the game in North London on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Everton at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.
