Should Manchester City make a move for Southampton defender and reported Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk?

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has suggested in The Daily Mail that Manchester City should sign Virgil van Dijk from Premier League rivals Southampton.
Redknapp was impressed with the performance of Van Dijk for Southampton against Liverpool at the weekend.
The former Celtic defender started the Premier League game at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon and played for the entire 90 minutes.
The 25-year-old centre-back played well and helped the Saints play out a goalless draw with the Reds.
Former Southampton midfielder Redknapp, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that City manager Pep Guardiola should sign Van Dijk.

“If there is one player Manchester City have to go out and buy it’s Virgil van Dijk,” Redknapp wrote in The Daily Mail.
“City have kept just two clean sheets in their last 15 Premier League games but Van Dijk showed his quality again for Southampton against Liverpool — keeping quiet one of the most exciting forward lines in Europe.
“As much as I like Vincent Kompany, City cannot keep waiting for him to get back to his best. Van Dijk is a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s team and I can see him forming a really good partnership with John Stones.”
Liverpool’s (reported) interest
Van Dijk is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and a key figure in the current Southampton team.
The Netherlands international’s performances have reportedly attracted the interest of Liverpool.
According to The Sun, Liverpool are lining up a double £40 million move for Southampton pair Van Dijk and Sam McQueen in the January transfer window.
Southampton are 11th in the Premier League table at the moment.
