Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Kevin Gameiro.
Atletico Madrid’s Kevin Gameiro in action against Eibar
Pundit Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he thinks Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
Gameiro, 29, had featured for Strasbourg and Lorient before earning a big move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, where he hit 23 goals in 78 games as he was in and out of the team.
The striker moved on to Sevilla in 2013, and that’s where his career really took off. Not only did he smash 67 goals in 144 games for the Andalusians, but he also helped the club win three successive Europa League trophies.
Last summer, Gameiro was snapped up by Atletico Madrid, and he’s been in and out of the team with 21 starts and 14 substitute appearances, but has still managed to score 13 goals – including a five-minute hat-trick against Sporting Gijon earlier this month.
Intriguingly, The Mirror reported last week that Atletico are open to selling Gameiro, and have sounded out Tottenham Hotspur about a possible summer move.
Harry Kane continues to excel in front of goal, but backup striker Vincent Janssen has yet to even score a goal from open play since his move from AZ Alkmaar last summer, meaning Mauricio Pochettino should be in the market for another striker at the end of the season.

Gameiro fits the bill as a proven goalscorer, whilst reuniting with his international team-mates Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko could be appealing, but it seems unlikely that Daniel Levy would sanction a big-money move for a player approaching his 30’s.
Now, pundit Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he thinks Tottenham would make a ‘fantastic’ addition by landing Gameiro, stating that they need a player who can score goals, and with times changing at Atletico under Diego Simeone, a deal this summer could be realistic.
“I think he would be fantastic at Tottenham, no question,” said Nicol. “Tottenham need somebody else who can put the ball in the net. They signed Janssen last off-season and it just hasn’t worked out, he’s not good enough. If you added Gameiro to the likes of Eriksen, Alli and Kane, I think no question, this would give Tottenham more goals. Things seem to be changing at Atleti, so I think there’s a good possibility that this could happen,” he added.
