Craig Burley wasn’t mincing his words about Everton and Tottenham on ESPN following their 2-2 draw on Friday.

The former Scotland midfielder shared that both Everton and Spurs are ‘bang average’ and they would be an ’embarrassment’ if they made it to the Champions League.

From Tottenham’s perspective, it feels like a season of decline, whilst their Everton counterparts will feel there is some progression in their ranks.

Both still have a chance of finishing in the top four before the final ball is kicked during this hectic and COVID-hit campaign, but Burley thinks English football should be ‘thankful’ that it won’t happen.

“At the end of the day, it’s powder puff material with these two thinking about top four,” said Burley.

“From the Premier League’s perspective, if these two were to make it, they would be an embarrassment because they are absolutely bang average the both of them.

“The goals cover the mediocrity. The first 30 minutes was abysmal, so they can be disappointed all they want but they are not good enough to be in the top four.

“They won’t be in the top four and English football can be thankful that won’t happen because these two just couldn’t cut the mustard with the big elite teams in Europe.”

With two of the finest coaches to have graced the game, both Everton and Spurs still have a great chance of achieving their goals this term.

And whilst Mourinho has been getting pelters for Tottenham’s performances this season, he still has the League Cup final to contend with and that outside chance of finishing in the top four.

Either way, it’s pretty obvious who is popular in their own respective dugout and who isn’t.
