David Provan has given his take on reported Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers target and Celtic-owned defender Jack Hendry in The Scottish Sun.

The Celtic legend has been impressed by the size of Hendry during his loan spell at KV Oostende, and believes that he now looks like “a proper centre-back”.

The Scottish pundit believes that Celtic could do with the 25-year-old central defender now.

The Scotland international joined Oostende on loan from Celtic in the summer of 2020.

According to 90min, Aston Villa and Wolves are among the clubs who are interested in signing Hendry in the January transfer window and have already enquired about him.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Saw footage of Celtic’s Jack Hendry playing on loan at KV Oostende recently. Where he was lightweight when signing for Brendan Rodgers, he’s added half a stone of muscle to look like a proper centre-back

“Wolves are among a number of clubs known to be interested in him and so too should Scotland boss Steve Clarke. We don’t have many defenders with the distribution of Hendry.

“Celts could do with him in their current emergency but there was no release clause in the deal. Oops.”

Premier League transfer

Hendry could not make a good impact at Celtic, but the central defender is doing well during his loan spell at Oostende.

Villa and Wolves are big and established clubs in the Premier League, and it would be a step-up for the 25-year-old if he moved to the Villans or the Wanderers.

Hendry is still improving and developing, and he could be a good long-term signing for Villa or Wolves.

However, Celtic may not be willing to sell Hendry and could integrate him into the team when he is back from his loan spell.
