Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster has been discussing this weekend’s north London derby and Thomas Partey’s remarkable opening goal.
The pundit was discussing Partey’s banger of a goal, stating that his effortless ability to sidefoot the strike with such power into the top corner reminded him of Yaya Toure.
Of course, Toure was renowned for his goalscoring ability from midfield during his time at Manchester City, and while this comparison is apt, we’re sure it’s not one Toure will enjoy hearing.
Indeed, Toure is actually now employed as a coach by Tottenham, so we’re sure he wasn’t too pleased to see an Arsenal player emulating his style in a north London derby.
Yaya Toure-esque
Foster spoke about Partey’s goal.
“Arsenal, talk to me about Thomas Partey’s goal, because you know what he reminded me of, Yaya Toure. You know the way he kind of just strolled onto it and side footed it into the corner,” Foster said.
Perfect comparison
The Toure-Partey comparison isn’t one we’ve heard before, but after watching this goal back, you can’t help but feel that it is very Toure-esque.
The goal that immediately sprung to mind for us was the Ivorian’s strike against Sunderland in the 2014 League Cup final, and while that was across goal rather than at the near post, it was a similarly well-hit side-footed drive with a lot of swerve and power attached.
Toure is currently coaching within the academy at Spurs, so he’ll be hoping that one day, one of these youngsters he’s helping out will score a similar goal in a north London derby, only for the other team.
