Maurice Edu has stated that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is the ‘main man’ for the USA National team ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and more important than Juventus star, Weston McKennie.

The former Rangers defender shared that Adams is the ‘hardest to replace’ in the US midfield, even though McKennie brings ‘an incredible appetite’, ‘endeavour’, ‘personality’ and ‘energy’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (25/10/22 at 10:40 pm).

Jesse Marsch used his connections well and secured the talents of Adams during the summer transfer window when Leeds purchased him from RB Leipzig.

During what has been an indifferent campaign for Leeds, one player that has stood out has been Adams in the middle of the park.

Kalvin Phillips may have headed for the exit door in the summer, but some may argue that Adams is better suited to how they play.

Nonetheless, when talking about the USA ahead of the 2022 World Cup in less than a month, this is what ex-international Edu had to say about this fellow countryman.

“I would say Tyler (Adams) is the main man,” said Edu. “When you look at the pool of players we have. I think Tyler is the one that is the hardest to replace.

“When he goes out with an injury or he’s not in camp, the level that we drop off to the next player that plays as a number six, is a little bit more significant than what happens with other players in that midfield (such as Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah).

“I think Weston (McKennie) brings an incredible appetite for the game, his endeavour, personality, work rate and energy are all things that are a big part of that USA midfield, but I think Tyler Adams is the one who is hardest to replace.”

USA IN ENGLAND’S GROUP

You’re probably not going to get a more political group than Group B, which will be contested by the USA, Iran, England and Wales.

Of course, England go in as favourites, unless Gareth Southgate decides to play 11 right-backs, then the Three Lions should see this one through.

England’s opening game will be against Iran on November 21, before a showdown with the USA four days later and then it’s a clash of the two neighbours to finish things off.

Wales and USA will feel it’s between them two regarding who progresses alongside England, and in truth, the biggest punch could be landed in the opening game because, whoever wins their contest, should then see things through.
