Tony Cascarino says it is Arsenal and not Tottenham who Arsene Wenger should be focused on.

Tottenham Hotspur showed their current supremacy over rivals Arsenal at the weekend, winning 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

Spurs remain in second place in the table and Arsenal cannot mathematically finish above them, for the first time under Arsene Wenger’s management.

Speaking after Tottenham’s victory, pundit Tony Cascarino warned that Arsenal have serious work to do, and had a pop at Arsene Wenger’s recent comments about their North London rivals.

He told The Times: “I had to laugh when Wenger warned Tottenham that they will have to scrap their pay structure if they are to keep their best players this summer.

“If any club should be worried about their squad, then it is Arsenal. Tottenham may tweak their squad this summer but, if Wenger stays, then he needs to overhaul his.”

Tottenham have already tied their key players down to long term contracts, and while strong performances this season could see some demand increases, there is no urgency or headache on Tottenham’s part.

Spurs are building, while Arsenal are lacking direction. Even a FA Cup win could not distract from a miserable season for very long.

Even Tottenham’s fringe players would likely be reluctant to leave the club, while Arsenal’s star men could take some convincing.

They are not in a strong contractual situation either, with the contracts of both top earners Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez set to expire in June 2018.
