Leeds United are flying under head coach Garry Monk.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur defender Jason Cundy has suggested to The Daily Star that Garry Monk could be sacked as the Leeds United head coach.

Monk was appointed as the Leeds head coach in the summer of 2016 following the departure of Steve Evans at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The former Swansea City manager has done a remarkable job at Elland Road so far this season.

The West Yorkshire outfit are third in the Championship table at the moment with 48 points from 26 matches. The Whites have established themselves as genuine contenders for the playoffs this season.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham defender Cundy has said that he wants to see Leeds return to the Premier League. The Englishman, though, has suggested that Monk could be sacked before the end of the season.

“Leeds fans, their concerns will be all of a sudden the owner has a moment,” Cundy told The Daily Star. “Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. It’s been a club in turmoil for years.

“As soon as you walk in the pressure is to get results, he didn’t start well but he’s turned it around. Leeds was always a poisoned chalice, where they were and where they wanted to be.

“They never had a chance of getting promoted but they are on the cusp of having a magnificent season.

“When he got sacked at Swansea it was such a bad decision. Good luck to him. I like the way he deals with the media and approaches the game. I hope to see Leeds back in the Premier League.”

Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino has made a number of managerial changes at the club, but it does not look likely that Monk would be sacked this season.

There is genuine optimism at Elland Road, and the way that the Whites are playing at the moment, it looks very likely that they would finish in the top six of the Championship this campaign.
