Jose Enrique has expressed his displeasure on Twitter that Manchester United central defender Raphael Varane started ahead of Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate for France against Poland in the 2022 Qatar World Cup Round of 16 tie.
The former Liverpool start has said that Konate should have started ahead of Varane on Sunday because he has been playing well for France at the World Cup.
France beat Poland 3-1 in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
Manchester United centre-back Varane started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Konate, who cost Liverpool £36 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports), was an unused substitute.
When the lineup was announced, Enrique was not happy at all that Liverpool defender Konate was snubbed in favour of Manchester United star Varane.
However, it turned out to be a good decision from France head coach Didier Deschamps.
Former Real Madrid centre-back Varane had a brilliant game at the back and was a real leader.
The United star was a rock in the heart of the France defence and made a brilliant clearance.
