Former Rangers winger Neil McCann has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks the club aren’t where they should be as they gear up to face Aberdeen this weekend.

Rangers have endured a tough time of late, as not only did they lose 5-1 to Old Firm rivals Celtic earlier this month, but they then played out a frustrating 0-0 draw with Ross County last weekend.

Add in that summer signing Joey Barton has been suspended for three weeks, and it’s clear why Rangers’ 5-0 win over Queen of the South in Tuesday’s Scottish League Cup tie was so important for manager Mark Warburton.

This weekend, Warburton faces one of his biggest games of the season, as Rangers face a trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen away from home.

Aberdeen and Rangers are seen as the two clubs who can challenge Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football this season, and with both teams looking for European qualification, this is a huge clash for both teams.

Ahead of the game, pundit and former Rangers winger Neil McCann has offered his view on the game to The Scottish Sun – and he doesn’t appear to be confident that Warburton’s men will grab a win.

McCann stated that Rangers must be at their absolute best to have a chance of beating Aberdeen, and added that even if Rangers match their level of performance against Queen of the South, it still won’t be enough to beat Aberdeen.

McCann also believe that Rangers aren’t where they should be right now, and are lagging behind both Aberdeen and Hearts after a slow start to the season.

“Rangers will have to play at their absolute best,” said McCann. “Even their performance the other night against Queens I don’t think would be good enough to beat Aberdeen, to be brutally honest.”

“I know they scored the goals but Aberdeen are, let’s face it, a class above what they played on Tuesday night. I still don’t think Rangers are where they should be right now. I don’t think they are quite as rounded as Hearts and Aberdeen at the moment.”

“When they click into gear and teams give them space to play they can destroy teams. But I just think they are searching for that formula, where they can get it right at the back and right at the front,” he added.
